G'day!

Welcome to the Urban Aquaponics web site......home of The Urban Aquaponics Manual (2nd Edition)......and the online face of Creek Street Micro Farm.

While Urban Aquaponics is essentially about practical, backyard aquaponics, it will appeal to micro-farmers in general because of its broad approach to the production of fish, plants and micro-livestock......which we referred to initially as Integrated Backyard Food Production.  That became too much of a mouthful, so these days IBFP is known as Microponics.

Microponics Blog
Our Microponics site provides robust commentary about various aspects of integrated backyard food production without having to tippy-toe through the 'feelings' or vested interests minefields that are a feature of most forums.

The supportive comments from backyard farmers (and the hate mail from the vested interests) reinforces our belief that the Microponics site is performing a useful public service.

Our Most Recent Aquaponics System
This system advanced our knowledge of what works (and what doesn't) in small aquaponics.  We dismantled and sold the system in late 2009 in anticipation of a new design.

What's New?
The Queenslander
An aquaponics system that REALLY works!

The design is nothing more than commonsense.  It proposes solids removal, component positioning and environmental control as the means of boosting productivity and reducing risk.

My suggestion that it will function better than a conventional aquaponics system, however, has aquaponics fundamentalists (and vested interests) screaming "foul" from the sidelines.

The new design will see its debut in coming weeks.

If past behaviour is any guide, our detractors will eventually figure out what works and adopt the ideas (just as they did with our microFish Farm concept).......rewriting history as they go.
